Don’t worry! I am not going to tell you to stop eating your favourite nut butter but there are a few things you should be aware of. Nut butters are a great source of healthy fats and protein and can be easily incorporated into many recipes or quick snacks. Whether you are spreading this butter on crackers, apple slices or a banana, they are a great recovery snack after a workout to replenish vitamins, minerals, protein and fat. However, nut butters are very calorie dense so be aware of how much you are eating! A good rule of thumb I go by is to follow the serving size listed on the packaging. Example: my peanut butter shows 90 calories for 1 tbsp. You must search for the all natural nut butters as well. Many companies add salt, sugar and other undesirable ingredients that could potentially add more calories and have other negative effects on the body. Below are a few of my favourite recipes that include almond and peanut butter!
